Have you ever been in these shoes? You sign up for a meeting because the speaker sounds interesting or you want information on the topic. You arrive, do a little networking, and settle in to hear the talk. But just before she starts, you check your phone. It won’t take long so you go ahead and answer whatever came in. And then you realize you’ve missed the beginning of the talk and you aren’t sure what she’s talking about because everyone is laughing and you didn’t catch it so you go right ahead and keep working on your phone. Commitment is a Good Thing
Someone asks you to schedule a meeting that you really want to have. You want to be accommodating and flexible because you REALLY REALLY REALLY want this person to like you and do business with you. You tell them to name the time and place and you will be there. You are asked to write a testimonial for someone. Not knowing all the applications they may use it you say something generically positive and then offer people to contact you for more information. Someone asks you who your best customer or target market is. You don’t want to miss an opportunity so you detail out all of the possibilities. In each one of these cases, the intent is a good one. Worst Sales Guy EVER!
I went to get my oil changed this week at Sharon Automotive. While I was waiting, a sales person came into the shop. The owner was on the floor so I was the only one in the sales area and clearly sitting in the waiting area. He opened the door and stuck his head in which struck me as odd. He then asked me if I work there. I was sitting in the waiting area playing a game on my phone. If I worked there, I was a TERRIBLE employee. So I said no, but I was sure the owner would be right back. He then walked in. The owner came out and asked if he could help this person. So this is where it got awful.
