I broke my phone. Not just, “oh – its a little damaged”. I mean dead. Nothing. Can’t use. It was awful. The insurance helped a lot as it was less than a third of the price to replace it, but it took two days to arrive. So here’s what I’ve learned in that time. Being able to check email and get phone calls while out of the office means I don’t have to stay in one place. That is a big deal when you are a solopreneur. Not having that flexibility really cut into my ability to manage my business. Not having my calendar the way I’m used to was tough, but not as bad as I thought. Troubleshooting

There are lots of ways to solve problems. Troubleshooting is one of them. Troubleshooting is used to diagnosis the source of a problem.  So to me, troubleshooting is the best way to solve a problem.  My process of troubleshooting is easy to understand. The goal is to always give yourself a limited number of options to choose to determine what’s going on (typically 2).  If the problem is reconfiguring email or why marketing efforts aren’t working, you can do the same thing.  Let’s walk through an example. You try a new marketing idea and while you feel it should be effective, you aren’t seeing the results.  To troubleshoot it you need to get to the cause.  In the case of a marketing idea, it could be the content, it could be the medium or it could be the audience. Give Referrals More Often

How often do you give referrals? If you are in small business, I hope the answer is all the time. But it can be hard to give referrals because the opportunity comes around and you don’t recognize it for what it is until the moment is passed. So here are some ways to help yourself. Start by making a list of people who provide you amazing service and / or people you would like to refer. This is a fun list to make because you get to think about all the people who don’t make you crazy, who help you get through your day and help solve your problems. Make sure you have their full contact information somewhere easy to find – your phone is the best but if that’s not an option, put their business card somewhere you can get to it easily.
