How often do you give referrals? If you are in small business, I hope the answer is all the time. But it can be hard to give referrals because the opportunity comes around and you don’t recognize it for what it is until the moment is passed. So here are some ways to help yourself. Start by making a list of people who provide you amazing service and / or people you would like to refer. This is a fun list to make because you get to think about all the people who don’t make you crazy, who help you get through your day and help solve your problems. A Plea for Tolerance
It is that time again – the time in which reasonable, wonderful business people suddenly get indignant that their holiday isn’t being celebrated properly. It doesn’t matter what holiday you celebrate (or if you don’t celebrate one), “everyone else” gets it wrong. It is awful! The one common feature of all the holidays are what they are to celebrate in each other – unity, understanding, peace, etc. NOT exclusion, criticism, or an expectation that they should do what you do because you do it. So please – be kind to each other. Understand that not everyone celebrates the same holiday in the same way or for the same reasons. Are You Not Doing What You Said You Would?
In a meeting last week the speaker was unable to attend so we each went around and gave our best business tip.  It was interesting that over half of the tips shared were about doing what you say you are going to do.  That seems like such an obvious thing – why was everyone talking about it? Clearly we have a problem. I think it is because people look at that two ways – on the one hand there are people who say they will do something but have no intention of actually doing it.  Those are the people we don’t work with after that first time because you know that’s what’s going on.
