I love talking to people with vision. To be able to see where we could go and what we could do is a wonderful trait. Years ago I took an assessment that helps determine your role in a team (it is called Role Based Assessment and it is pretty cool) and it said I was a “vision-mover”. That makes total sense as I often understand where someone is trying to go and can help them get there. But to have that original idea of where we could go? I don’t get to have that often so I LOVE talking to people who do. I’m lucky to know many. This week I had lunch with someone I don’t know well, but who clearly has vision. Cabbies and Cooperation
Recently, I spent some time in Las Vegas and had to take a number of cabs to get where I needed to go. It was interesting observing this group of professionals as it isn’t one I am used to seeing. We had one gentleman who was born in Vegas, was in construction for 18 years and has driven a cab for 35. He loves it and has never had an accident. We had a woman who had started her day at 1:00 in the morning and we were her last fare. She loved being a cab driver and knew a ton about the hotels and how the town works. We had a gentleman from Chicago who was happy to get away from winter but also hated traffic. Another guy was really burnt out on driving after 11 years. Commitment is a Good Thing
Someone asks you to schedule a meeting that you really want to have. You want to be accommodating and flexible because you REALLY REALLY REALLY want this person to like you and do business with you. You tell them to name the time and place and you will be there. You are asked to write a testimonial for someone. Not knowing all the applications they may use it you say something generically positive and then offer people to contact you for more information. Someone asks you who your best customer or target market is. You don’t want to miss an opportunity so you detail out all of the possibilities. In each one of these cases, the intent is a good one.
