We all occupy so many roles – in just one day for my clients I am counselor, adviser, tech support, strategist, researcher, brainstorming partner, copy writer, website designer, programmer, designer, and friend. And then I go home to be a whole host of other roles. At some point, it is important to look at those roles and determine which ones are appropriate to your business, which ones make you unique and which ones is it time to dump. If you ask any business owner where they get their best clients, they all say through referrals. And if you ask about networking, they will all tell you it is vital to any business. So why is it when you go to a networking event, the organizers are sweating bullets because they didn’t have people sign up, a bunch of people show up who didn’t register, and then they don’t do anything to work the room? I was shocked recently when I gave a talk at a group about networking and two guys I know sat in the back, together. Industry Secrets
Got a post on Facebook today of 10 secrets of the hospitality industry. Along with the “never pay minibar charges” and the glasses have no spots because they wipe them down with pledge (ewwww), it got me thinking; what secrets are there in other industries? When I placed temps, the big secret was if you wanted work, call us. A lot. Keeping your name top of mind was key. So, if you were asked to write the X secrets of your industry, what would they be?
