Secret Questions for Passwords

Short post today, but I blew someone’s mind this week so I have to share.  A client was setting up an account and was stressed about the secret questions she needed to answer. How could she answer them so other people couldn’t find the information?  When I suggested she answer them incorrectly, she was floored. This isn’t “lying” – because it isn’t like that. This is a way for you to recover a password in the event you forget it. So, if the question is your mother’s maiden name and you enter “drwho”, you will remember it and no one will be able to guess it.  That’s all there is to it!  A friend of mine’s daughter uses her old license plate as her secret answer. On the Subject of Subjects

You sit down to write an email and the first thing you fill in is the subject. Write your email, hit send, and that’s the last you think about it. But it shouldn’t be. Before you hit send, think about what you hope someone will do when they receive your email and modify the subject accordingly. What does that mean? Well, for instance, if you send your client a bill, don’t call it “Invoice for ABC Company” because that’s what it is to YOU. Instead, call it “Invoice from TPG – June 1-30, 2013” so if they file it, they can find it easily. If you send them the same thing regularly, by just changing the date they have neat and orderly information without lifting a finger. Nice. Or, maybe you want someone to respond. The Internet of Everything

I recently started reading Cisco’s blog about the Internet of Everything and I’m completely fascinated. The thought is as more and more devices become internet-enabled, there will be different types of data created and traffic may be a problem. For instance, many homes have a wireless network for a laptop and a printer to communicate. In my house I can think of 12 devices off the top of my head that are connected to the internet all the time. It is a combination of wired and wireless but nevertheless, that’s a lot! But if you think about the devices that are coming, the data will be very different.
