A metronome is a cool little gadget musicians use to help keep the tempo. In these “lazy days of summer”, how are you keeping the tempo? For some, it is even a question of “what is our tempo?”. Many business owners would say they want it to be fast. But no one ever said the Benny Hill Theme or Flight of the Bumble Bee sounded like business. In the same vein, slow isn’t necessarily right either. Frank Sinatra’s “It Was a Very Good Year” may be accurate, but it certainly doesn’t inspire people to make it to the meeting on time.
Think about your company’s pace – how quickly people move, do they rush around or are things calm? While it is good to slow down from time to time, this summer it doesn’t appear that the majority of business is doing so. Be careful you don’t get in the wrong groove!
